Vegetation and underground roots around the home and garden and how they attract termites / white ants.
Vegetation around the home has many underground roots. These roots build up and create a mass of living and dead wood material that is attractive to Termites / White Ants.
Thick vegetation, trees, bushes, vines, grasses, bamboo, succulents, cycads, ferns and water plants all pose a threat to your home.
Any tree or bush that is situated close to your home creates a subterranean threat from termites . Roots grow under the soil and if they encounter the house foundation they compress against it. This compression forms a thick mass of roots and debris pushed tightly against the footing. This is extremely attractive to termites.
What to do with the vegetation around the home.
Ideally: All trees need to be a minimum of five metres away from the exterior walls. Depending on the size of the mature tree some trees should not be in the garden. Bushes need to be cleared to at least two metres away.
Grass and ground covers at a meter away is advised.
If you don’t want to move vegetation then a Termite Treatment Zone can be installed around your home by a trusted professional.
There are two options for termite protection. A Termite Treatment Zone with an 8 year life span or a Termite Treatment Zone. with a 10 year life span. Which option you choose would depend on the termite history of the property,
