Chemical free methods are always the safest and cheapest but are labour intensive and often produce poor results. Strict hygiene is the first port of call in helping to stop cockroaches feeding in your home. The kitchen is the favorite room for cockroaches as this is the most likely area that food and crumbs will be spilled. All food must be sealed in a container with a lid to keep unwanted insects out.

Hiding places must be eliminated. Under sinks and stoves are a favorite place to hide. Cracks and crevices must be filled in or blocked off. Storage containers should be moved and cleaned regularly. Cockroaches make a home out of almost anything. Under hanging pictures, inside book pages, any stored clothing, under fridges, inside microwaves, inside stereo, dvd’s in fact they can live inside any electrical appliance. They can also be found living inside your vehicle, anything near a food source is a good place to lay an egg casing which is a group of cockroach eggs. Egg casings have up to forty eggs and a female adult can lay three to four casings per year.

Cleanliness is the best way to prevent an infestation but it will not stop an existing one because in an existing infestation there are thousands of adult reproducing 24 hrs a day.
